Public Agents, Public MCP and Agency: what’s different?

Choose between Public’s native automations, its MCP connection to AI assistants, and Agency’s scheduled agents in your Public account.

GuidesBy Agency

Three products around the same brokerage

Public Agents is Public’s own automation product. Public MCP connects an outside assistant to brokerage tools. Agency connects to Public through SnapTrade and runs its own agents. Connecting one does not automatically configure the others.

OptionWhat you configure
Public AgentsDescribe a recurring workflow and inspect the executable instructions before activating it.
Public MCPAuthorize a supported AI assistant to access account and trading tools.
AgencyConfirm an investing plan, inspect its first look and assign an agent cash or holdings.

Public describes the first two in its Agents guide and MCP overview. This is a documentation comparison, checked October 3, 2026, not a returns comparison.

A connector does not define the whole strategy

With an external assistant, verify how a request becomes an order and where a recurring job runs. With a native automation, inspect the conditions and schedule it generated. In either case, check the selected account and permissions rather than relying on the product label.

A useful dry run is to ask for the current holdings and a proposed action without execution. Compare the numbers with Public. If the assistant uses a stale balance or cannot explain an order condition, resolve that before activating it.

What Agency adds, and its limits

Agency tracks each agent’s assigned cash and holdings, schedules its reviews and records its explanations. Money stays at Public. Funded agents can trade during reviews without approval of each order.

Agency currently supports stocks and ETFs. Its Public connection does not support stop or good-till-cancelled orders. Public’s native product or MCP may expose capabilities that Agency does not; do not transfer an order-type assumption from one to another.

If your goal is a precise recurring instruction inside Public, inspect its native workflow first. If you want an agent following a broader investing plan, read Agency’s first look before funding it. The setup guide covers connecting your Public account.
