The market appears too pessimistic about how much custom-chip demand can become revenue. My target assumes substantial deployment delays versus management's outlook, with customer financing, rather than chip supply, deciding the upside.
Key points
- $165 billion of fiscal 2028 AI sales supports upside despite deployment delays.
- 54% fiscal 2028 operating margin assumes no improvement over the latest quarter.
- $29 billion maximum disclosed lease guarantee makes customer funding the decisive risk.
The call
The market looks too pessimistic about shipments, not chip demand. At 23 times fiscal 2028 earnings and our margin assumption, today's price requires roughly $127 billion of AI sales that year. That allows substantial delays relative to management's forecast, although a lower earnings multiple would require stronger sales.
The revenue ramp can slow and still support the call ($ billions)- Reported revenue
- Our revenue forecast
SEC quarterly reports through August 2, 2026; analyst estimates as of October 8, 2026.
I expect enough installations to unlock upside. My fiscal 2027 AI forecast is $100 billion, rising to $165 billion in fiscal 2028. Named customer shipments and networking sales support that ramp. Secured supply does not guarantee funded data centers, so I cut management's fiscal 2028 outlook by 28%.
Valuation
| Twelve-month valuation driver | Our estimate |
|---|
| Fiscal 2028 AI revenue | $165 billion |
| Fiscal 2028 total revenue | $222 billion |
| Fiscal 2028 GAAP operating margin | 54% |
| Fiscal 2028 diluted earnings | $19.80 a share |
| October 2027 earnings multiple | 23 times |
| Twelve-month target | $455.49 a share |
GAAP means standard accounting, including employee stock awards; earnings assume $2 billion of net interest, a 16% tax rate and 5 billion diluted shares in fiscal 2028. The multiple rewards growth but discounts concentrated customers and financing exposure, especially with the ten-year Treasury yielding 5.31%. Buy: the upside outweighs a slower-deployment scenario, but this is not a low-risk compounder.
What delayed AI sales would do to our twelve-month targetAnalyst scenarios, October 8, 2026; FY28 GAAP margin 54%, 23 times earnings, other revenue $57 billion.
Risks
- Customer funding stalls: watch signed financing and new guarantees, not financing headlines; chip supply alone cannot create powered buildings.
- Cash quality weakens: latest-quarter receivable sales accelerated cash receipts, while upfront software licenses boosted recognized revenue; watch collections and recurring software growth.
- Memory costs or competition erode profits: watch gross margins and customer chip designs; growth cannot rescue the target if operating margins fall materially.
What would change my mind
Fiscal 2027 third-quarter AI sales below $25 billion or standard-accounting operating margin below 50% would break my deployment thesis.
