The shares need 21 times next year's earnings to hold here. Smoke-free mix and cigarette pricing can deliver that earnings, but not a richer multiple.
Key points
- $8.43 is the company's 2026 adjusted EPS midpoint after the September currency-only raise.
- 8% is the EPS growth I use for 2027, in line with 7%, 9% organic operating-income growth.
- 21 times that 2027 figure produces $191, inside 1% of today's close.
The call
The price of $192.69 asks for 23 times 2026 adjusted earnings of $8.43 and 21 times 2027 earnings if those grow 8%. That is a consumer-staple multiple on a business still 58% international cigarettes.
I believe earnings can grow at that rate because smoke-free mix and cigarette pricing are already doing the work. I do not believe the multiple should rise while U.S. ZYN offtake is only flat to slightly up and Japan faces another excise swing.

Valuation
| Item | Figure |
|---|
| 2026 adj. EPS (company midpoint) | $8.43 |
| 2027 EPS (desk, +8%) | $9.10 |
| Multiple on 2027 EPS | 21 times |
| 12-month target | $191 |
| Dividend (annualized) | $6.40, 3.3% yield |
| Implied total return | about 1% plus dividend |
Twenty-one times is a full staple multiple for a still-levered, negative-equity balance sheet. Asymmetry is thin: a 10% earnings miss cuts more than a 10% multiple expansion adds. That is why the rating is hold, not buy.
Risks
- U.S. ZYN offtake stays flat after extra second-half spend; watch sequential pouch volume on the October 21 print.
- Japan HTU volumes fail to recover after the October excise; watch category share versus 68% in June.
- Cigarette mix stays adverse in high-unit-economics markets; watch international combustible gross profit versus the low-to-mid single-digit path.
What would change my mind
A clear sequential lift in U.S. ZYN offtake plus IQOS ILUMA authorization would justify 23 times 2027 earnings and a buy.
