The market is too optimistic about Neutron’s contribution after another launch delay. Satellite manufacturing and the pending Iridium acquisition support substantial value, but my twelve-month target is $41.82, even allowing a generous premium for becoming an integrated space company.
Key points
- $2.59 billion of 2028 core sales would justify today’s price under my other assumptions.
- $1.77 billion is my 2028 core-sales forecast, excluding Neutron and Iridium.
- $41.82 a share is my twelve-month target, including substantial future-rocket value.
The call
The market still expects too much from the larger rocket. Holding my acquisition and Neutron values constant, today’s price requires 2028 core revenue of $2.59 billion at twelve times sales. Alternatively, it assigns almost $14 billion to Neutron and the integrated-space story before a successful flight.

- Iridium equipment20.84.5%
- Iridium engineering43.19.4%
Q2 2026 revenue, $ millions. Rocket Lab 10-Q and Iridium July 22 release; acquisition pending.
Growth elsewhere cannot fully close that gap. I forecast core sales rising from $1.35 billion in 2027 to $1.77 billion in 2028, supported by satellite contracts and small launches. But the unspecified 2027 Neutron debut postpones the production ramp and the spending relief management linked to successful flight.
Valuation
| October 2027 valuation component | Estimate |
|---|
| 2028 core sales of $1.77 billion × 12 | $21.24 billion |
| 2028 Iridium adjusted operating earnings of $550 million × 12 | $6.60 billion |
| Neutron and integrated-space premium | $4.00 billion |
| Less projected combined net debt | $1.10 billion |
| Projected economic shares, including preferred and dilution | 735 million |
| Twelve-month target per share | $41.82 |
Iridium’s earnings measure excludes interest, tax, depreciation and selected costs; its valuation includes Aireon but no speculative constellation synergies. Twelve times core sales generously rewards scarce capabilities and contracted growth, while the separate premium recognizes the strategic story. That premium could rise sharply after successful testing, making Sell more appropriate than Strong sell.
How much must the unproven larger rocket be worth?Analyst scenarios, October 15, 2026; other business values and projected debt held constant.
Risks
- Neutron advances faster than expected; watch completed engine qualification, full-stage firing and a firm launch window.
- Satellite production exceeds my forecast; watch backlog conversion, cash collections and gross margins, the share of sales left after production costs.
- Iridium creates more value than assumed; watch regulatory clearance, service growth and integration spending rather than the combined revenue headline.
What would change my mind
Successful Neutron flight followed by a credible repeat-launch schedule before October 2027 would undermine my expectation that investors reduce the premium they pay for future capability.
