The ADS needs about $35 billion of cash after capex to justify $98. I model $30 billion next year after ARC shares and German tax timing. That is a $89 stock.
Key points
- $97.80 on 2.86 billion ADSs requires $35 billion of cash after capex at an 8-times multiple.
- $30 billion is my 2027 cash after capex: $52 billion operating cash, $25 billion cash capex, modest investing inflows.
- 8.4 times that cash on 2.82 billion ADSs after buybacks produces $89.
The call
The price treats a one-quarter cash spike and $114 Brent as the new run rate. Q2 operating cash of $21.4 billion included $3.4 billion of working-capital inflows and $1.3 billion of emissions-certificate timing. October’s update flags a $2.5 billion German certificate outflow and $1, 4 billion working-capital drain.
I expect cash after capex of $30 billion in 2027, not $35 billion. ARC adds barrels and about $1.5 billion of free cash from 2027, but it also added 228 million ordinary shares. LNG tightness from Qatar is real; new US and Canada supply is also real. The market is too optimistic.

Valuation
| Line | Figure |
|---|
| 2027E operating cash flow | $52 billion |
| 2027E cash capex | $25 billion |
| 2027E cash after capex | $30 billion |
| Forward ADSs | 2.82 billion |
| Cash after capex per ADS | $10.64 |
| Multiple | 8.4 times |
| 12-month target | $89 |
Eight times cash after capex is a mid-cycle oil major, not a trough. Asymmetry is modest: if cash hits $35 billion the stock is about $104; if it falls to $25 billion it is about $74. That is a sell, not a strong sell.
Risks
- Brent stays above $110 through 2027; cash would beat $30 billion.
- LNG Canada Phase 2 FID and Qatar restart lift liquefaction faster than I model.
- Buybacks exceed $12 billion and shrink the ADS count below 2.80 billion.
What would change my mind
Four consecutive quarters of cash after capex above $8 billion with working capital flat would force the target up.
