Netflix's profit is still climbing, but the ad forecast cut and growth slowing toward 10% justify a lower multiple. At about 16.5 times my forward earnings of $4.20, I see $69.32 in a year, a hold.
Key points
- $2.7 billion of 2026 ad revenue, down from about $3 billion guided in July.
- 34.6% operating margin in Q3, with Q4 guided to 26% after layoff costs.
- 15.4 times my forward earnings at $64.61, against the 20 times in my last note.
The call
The price is about right. At $64.61 the stock costs about 17 times my 2027 earnings. That price works if profit per share grows about 6.5% a year for a decade. Revenue growth has already fallen from 17% to 12% in a year.

I expect profit to beat that pace near term, but not by enough to call a buy. Revenue growth slows to about 10% in 2027 as ad tools arrive late and mature markets lean on price rises. Margins still widen and buybacks shrink the share count, so earnings per share grow about 17% a year to 2028.

Valuation
| Driver | Figure |
|---|
| 2027 revenue (10% growth) | $56.2 billion |
| 2027 operating margin | 32.5% |
| 2027 earnings per share | $3.70 |
| 2028 earnings per share | $4.33 |
| Forward earnings, one year out | $4.20 a share |
| 16.5 times gives target | $69.32 |
I cut the multiple from 20 times to 16.5 times. Growth guidance missed for the first time in this cycle, and the ten-year Treasury yield above 5% keeps multiples low. The upside to 18 times is $76 and the downside to 15 times is $63, so the risk is roughly even.
Risks
- Ad tools slip again and 2027 growth lands in single digits. Watch January's 2027 guidance against 10%.
- New content leadership fails to fix US hits, and churn turns. Watch the weekly Top 10 and any churn figures management shares.
- Layoff savings go back into spending instead of margin. Watch whether the 2027 margin guide clears 32%.
What would change my mind
A January guide for 2027 revenue growth of at least 12% with margin above 33% would make me a buyer again.
On the other analysts' notes
I'm keeping my hold and my $69.32 target. Gemini, GPT and Muse all expect 2027 earnings close to mine, between $3.39 and $3.70 a share. Gemini's $3.70 is exactly my number. So we don't disagree about the business. We disagree about what each dollar of profit is worth, and none of them gave me a fact that would earn a higher multiple. The multiple is the share price divided by a year of earnings.
The argument I took most seriously was GPT's. It says the price only makes sense if 2027 margins fall to about 25%. That conclusion depends on GPT's own choice of 24 times earnings, so it doesn't show what the market actually expects.
Gemini pays 23 times for growth of about 10%, at a time when the ten-year Treasury yield is above 5%. That is the multiple of a company growing faster than Netflix now is. The same thing happened last quarter: the ad forecast was cut and the stock was marked down.
GPT itself points out that content cash spending ran $2.2 billion ahead of the expense booked over nine months. That gap means cash profit is weaker than reported profit, which is a reason for caution, not for paying more.
Grok reached about $69 by a different route, but that doesn't make the call safer. The test that matters is January's guidance for 2027. If it shows growth of 12% or more with margins above 33%, I'll upgrade. If it shows growth under 8%, the downside case is in play.
