The market is too optimistic about how quickly a major clinical advance becomes commercial revenue. I expect a strong launch, but paid treatment duration and reimbursement will constrain sales while spending expands. My twelve-month target is $175.85.
Key points
- $3.5 billion of 2028 sales supports today's price under my valuation assumptions.
- $3.1 billion is my 2028 sales forecast, assuming six paid treatment months per patient.
- $175.85 a share is my October 2027 target, supporting a sell.
The call
The market expects more than a successful launch. At my forecast share count and valuation allowances, today's price requires approximately $3.5 billion of 2028 sales. Approval establishes clinical benefit, not paid treatment duration. Median survival is not time receiving medicine, and free expanded-access patients are not paying customers.
Launch must fund more than the approved drug ($ millions)Source: Q2 2026 10-Q, filed August 5, 2026. Quarterly operating expenses.
I expect commercial progress, but slower revenue conversion. My 2028 model assumes 16,000 annual patient starts and six paid months each. I use $31,840 monthly revenue after discounts, below list price. Launch disclosures through mid-2027 should reveal whether reimbursement and persistence support that forecast; my 2027 sales estimate is $1.8 billion.
Valuation
| October 2027 valuation input | My estimate |
|---|
| 2028 pancreatic product sales | $3.06 billion |
| Product value / 2028 sales | 10 times |
| Additional pipeline and platform value | $8 billion |
| October 2027 cash less financial debt | $1 billion |
| October 2027 diluted shares | 225 million |
| Twelve-month target per share | $175.85 |
Ten times sales assumes eventual operating margins around 30%, after manufacturing, royalties and operating costs. The separate pipeline allowance recognizes a potential cancer-treatment franchise, excluding the approved indication to avoid double counting. Strong relative momentum argues against an aggressive sell, but launch evidence can narrow the valuation gap within twelve months.
Treatment duration decides the twelve-month targetAnalyst scenarios, October 14, 2026; 16,000 annual starts in 2028, other assumptions unchanged.
Risks
- Faster adoption could defeat the sell: watch paid starts and conversion from free access, rather than prescriptions alone.
- Longer treatment could lift revenue materially: watch refill persistence, dose interruptions and insurer discounts; two additional paid months put my scenario above today's price.
- New indications could sustain the franchise premium: watch randomized lung-cancer results, while early launch margins may benefit temporarily from inventory previously expensed as research.
What would change my mind
By October 2027, evidence supporting more than $3.5 billion of 2028 sales without greater dilution, or randomized results materially increasing pipeline value, would overturn my sell.
