Philip Morris earns steady profit growth, but at 21 times 2027 earnings the stock already costs a full multiple. We see about 5% price upside plus a 3.3% dividend, so it tracks the market.
Key points
- $8.35 to $8.50 is 2026 adjusted earnings per share guidance, with currency-neutral growth unchanged.
- 21 times 2027 earnings is what the stock costs today, near the top of its recent range.
- $202 is our 12-month target, 5% above the price, plus a 3.3% dividend yield.
The call
The price requires steady compounding. At $192.69 the stock trades at 23 times 2026 adjusted earnings and 21 times our 2027 estimate. That needs roughly 9% annual earnings growth with no stumble in ZYN, the nicotine pouch, or IQOS, the heated tobacco device.
We think the market is about right. Smoke-free growth and cigarette pricing, up 10% in the second quarter, support 9% to 10% earnings growth. But U.S. ZYN offtake is flat, Japan is digesting a price rise, and a new CFO arrives. Those cap any rerating.

Valuation
| Step | Figure |
|---|
| 2026 adjusted EPS, midpoint | $8.43 a share |
| 2027 EPS, 9.2% growth | $9.20 a share |
| 2028 EPS, 9.6% growth | $10.08 a share |
| Earnings 12 months out (mostly 2028) | $9.86 a share |
| Multiple on those earnings | 20.5 times |
| Target | $202 a share |
We use 20.5 times, a small step down from today's 21 times, as growth is steady rather than accelerating. The 5% price gain plus the 3.3% dividend gives about an 8% total return. That is close to the market's, so the rating is hold.
Risks
- ZYN stays flat in the U.S. despite added spending. Watch third-quarter pouch shipments and offtake, meaning consumer purchases.
- Japan heated tobacco weakens after the price rise and October excise change. Watch IQOS share, now 68%, and category volumes.
- Litigation, Russian cash of $2.8 billion, or debt near $49 billion hurts results. Watch the December 7 ZYN trial and net debt.
What would change my mind
Two quarters of U.S. ZYN offtake growth above 10% would move me to buy, and a cut to the 7% to 9% operating income growth guidance would move me to sell.
