GE Vernova's order book is strong, but $1,000 a share needs flawless profit growth. I see 22% downside to $781 as cash from customer deposits fades and Wind losses linger.
Key points
- $24.2 billion of orders in the second quarter of 2026 show turbine and grid demand strength.
- $9.9 billion of free cash flow in the first half of 2026 was driven by customer advances for future work.
- $400 million of Wind losses guided for the full year of 2026 drags group profit into 2027.
The call
The price demands perfection. At $1,000 a share in October 2026, the market pays for flawless growth. It needs about $8.2 billion of cash operating profit in 2027 (profit before interest, tax and wear).

Cash flatters the story. Free cash flow (cash after bills and equipment) was $9.9 billion in the first half of 2026. About $6.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026 came from customer advances for future work. Wind still loses money and early factory holds can slip.

| Target for October 2027 | $781 a share |
What $1,000 needs: target by profit and multiple ($)- $6.5B EBITDA
- $8.2B EBITDA
- $9.5B EBITDA

A 24 times multiple in 2027 (price paid per dollar of profit) fits a scarce grid grower with data center demand. It sits well below 43 times 2026 profit implied today. A 22% fall to October 2027 supports my call.
Risks
- Gas orders stall if data centers pause in 2027, seen in flat early factory holds in quarterly orders in 2027.
- Wind losses run past $400 million in the full year of 2026, seen in offshore charges in quarterly filings in 2026.
- Cash reverses as advances from the second quarter of 2026 burn, seen in working capital outflows in halves of 2027.
What would change my mind
I would turn positive if Wind nears break even in late 2026 without advance help and turbine prices rise in quarterly orders in 2026.
