The market is too optimistic about how much stronger beverage demand will become cash for shareholders. I expect continued business growth, but slower cash growth and a lower valuation multiple over the next twelve months.
Key points
- $15.4 billion of 2027 free cash flow is required at my valuation multiple.
- $13.4 billion is my 2027 cash forecast, allowing continued profit improvement.
- $74.57 a share is my twelve-month target; initiate sell.
The call
The market is too optimistic. At 24 times annual free cash flow, cash left after business investment, today's price requires 24% growth from management's 2026 outlook. Alternatively, investors must keep paying almost 28 times my 2027 cash estimate. Strong brands alone do not justify that premium.
More drinks sold did not always mean better prices- Consumer volume growth

Q2 2026 year-over-year growth (%); Coca-Cola July 28, 2026 earnings release
I expect growth, not a collapse. My 2027 forecast assumes 5% underlying sales growth and modest profitability gains, producing 8% cash growth. Affordable packs recruit buyers but dilute revenue per drink. Harder comparisons and the February 2027 outlook should distinguish durable demand from this summer's tournament boost.

| Driver | Estimate |
|---|
| 2027 operating cash flow | $15.7 billion |
| 2027 business investment | $2.3 billion |
| 2027 free cash flow | $13.4 billion |
| 2027 cash per diluted share | $3.11 |
| Twelve-month cash multiple | 24 times |
| Twelve-month target | $74.57 a share |
The multiple rewards dependable brands while recognizing competition from higher-yielding bonds. The forecast excludes acquisition payments and adverse tax litigation; 2025 cash flow excluding the fairlife payment was $11.4 billion, so the recovery is not all new growth. Even 28 times my cash estimate offers little upside, supporting sell rather than hold.
The cash multiple decides the twelve-month outcomeAnalyst scenarios: 2027 estimated free cash flow $13.4bn; 4.313bn shares; October 8, 2026
Risks
- Stronger demand could defeat the forecast; watch sustained consumer-volume growth above 3% without worsening price and product mix.
- Lower bond yields or a weaker dollar could preserve the premium; watch currency benefits and renewed demand for dividend stocks.
- A tax-appeal victory could unlock deposited cash and investor confidence; watch the appellate decision, whose timing remains uncertain.
What would change my mind
I would withdraw the sell if the 2027 outlook credibly supports at least $15.4 billion of recurring free cash flow without relying on asset sales or tax refunds.
