Cloud demand supports substantial growth, but not the profit margin today's stock price requires. I expect rising infrastructure costs and continued financing needs to bring the shares down over the next twelve months.
Key points
- $211 billion of 2027 operating profit is required at my valuation multiple.
- $190 billion is my 2027 operating-profit forecast, including shared AI costs.
- $313.88 a share is my twelve-month target; initiate sell.
The call
The market is too optimistic about how much growth becomes profit. At my valuation multiple, today's price requires a 2027 operating margin of 35% on my revenue forecast. That leaves little room for rising equipment depreciation, the expense of using infrastructure over time, and rented computing capacity.
Why first-half earnings left little cash after construction ($ billions)Alphabet June 30, 2026 10-Q, filed July 22; H1 2026; rounded to one decimal.
Demand is strong, but supplying it gets more expensive. I forecast 2027 Services revenue of $450 billion and Cloud revenue of $150 billion. Their operating margins reach 40% and 30%, respectively. Shared research and Other Bets losses absorb the remaining benefit. The next spending outlook should expose that gap.
Valuation
| Driver | My estimate |
|---|
| 2027 consolidated revenue | $602 billion |
| 2027 operating profit after all operating costs | $190 billion |
| October 2027 business-value multiple | 20 times 2027 operating profit |
| October 2027 net investment and financial assets | $155 billion |
| October 2027 common-share denominator | 12.6 billion shares |
| Twelve-month target | $313.88 a share |
Twenty times operating profit rewards growth without assuming today's Cloud profitability survives the spending surge. Net assets deduct debt, preferred capital and a $20 billion forecast funding draw, with investments discounted 40% for taxes, restrictions and valuation uncertainty. Further financing and weaker cash generation make the downside more compelling than the upside, supporting sell.

Risks
- Cloud delivers more profitable growth than I forecast; watch margins as customer deliveries accelerate.
- Search advertising pays for AI faster than expected; watch revenue growth alongside Services profitability.
- Lower interest rates or investment sales sustain a richer valuation; watch Treasury yields and actual cash proceeds, not accounting gains.
What would change my mind
Cloud margins above 35% for two reported quarters, alongside construction spending funded from operating cash, would overturn my cost-pressure thesis.
